Hand puppets

A problem we've come accross very often here when observing teachers is students' tendency to repeat everything their teacher says. As a result you have endless conversations where the teacher goes: "What's your name?" and the child answers: "What's your name?", to which the teacher, slightly annoyed shouts: "No! What's your name?" and the child, slightly scared, repeats: "No! What's your name?". So the teacher, now really angry, screams: "Don't repeat! Answer!", so the child, by now really really scared, wishpers: "Don't repeat! Answer!".
I thought a pretty easy solution would be using hand puppets. So, for our English workshop, I made a puppet out of a shock and some buttons. You should have seen the teachers' face of disbelief when I started talking to "Tom". But the best has been walking into classrooms and finding teachers with a plain shock in their hands looking pretty unsure about what they were about to do and children wondering whether their teacher had gone crazy... Had to walk out to stop laughing!!
Un problema que hemos encontrado a menudo observando clases es la tendencia de los alumnos a repetir todo lo que dice el profesor. Así que asistimos a interminables conversaciones del tipo: "What's your name?", a lo que el niño responde: "What's your name?". El profesor, un poco mosqueado, repite: "No!What's your name?" y el niño, un poco asustado, responde:"No! What's your name?". Así que el profesor, ahora de muy mala leche, grita: "Don't repeat! Answer!" y el pobre niño, acojonado, murmura: "Don't repeat! Answer!".
Se me ocurrió que una solución sencilla sería usar marionetas. Así que para nuestro taller de inglés me hice una marioneta con un calcetín y unos botones. ¡Tendríais que haber visto la cara de incredulidad de los profesores cuando empecé a hablar con "Tom". Pero lo mejor fue ir a visitar los colegios y encontrarme a profesores con cara de no saber muy bien qué estaban haciendo con un calcetín plantado en la mano y los alumnos mirándole preguntándose si se había vuelto loco... ¡Me tuve que salir de la clase para no reventar de la risa!
